3 steps to avoid feedback with your Atom 2 hearing aids

3 steps to avoid feedback with your Atom 2 hearing aids

Setting up a pair of hearing aids can be frustrating. As you insert the device into your ear canal, you may experience whistling, grinding, or feedback. That's why it's extremely important to be careful and scrupulously follow the steps below to safely insert your hearing aids.

1. Start at a low volume

Many people experience feedback and whistling when inserting a device into their ear canal. Often, this is simply due to the device's volume being set too high. By default, out of the box, the Atom 2 range starts at volume level 2.

We recommend not starting above this level; and if you experience feedback, turn the volume down to level 1 and then adjust from there.

2. Locate the microphone and do not press on it

When you put on your new pair of hearing aids, keep in mind how the device works. It is equipped with a tiny microphone, located on the flat side of the casing, directly opposite the removal wire. Like a conventional microphone, your hearing aid will produce feedback if you apply pressure to it.

For this reason, make sure to locate the microphone and grasp the device by the sides when inserting it into your ear canal. This will completely avoid pressing on the microphone, which will significantly reduce feedback.

3. Try different ear tips to find the perfect seal

The main reason feedback occurs is that sound finds a way to escape the ear and return to the microphone. That's why getting a perfect seal is so important!

A perfect seal between the ear tip and the ear canal prevents excess sound from escaping and returning to the microphone.

Take the time to find the right size ear tip, one that completely seals your ear canal — often, you'll need to switch to a larger ear tip that provides a tighter seal. This will reduce feedback and improve comfort in the long term.

The Atom 2 range comes with new ear tips featuring integrated wax guards and made from a thicker material for a better seal. Try these new ear tips to find the one that offers the best fit and seal!

If you follow all these steps, you will most likely be able to solve the whistling and feedback problem when setting up your Atom 2 range hearing aids.

If, despite these steps, you are still unable to resolve the issue, your device may be faulty. To obtain a replacement, or to try another model, you can contact our support service who will be happy to help you.
