How to properly clean and maintain your hearing aids

How to properly clean and maintain your hearing aids

Your hearing aids are an integral part of your daily life. When it comes to your five senses, it is better to take things seriously. If your glasses are dirty, you clean them, right? The same principle applies to your hearing aids: they must be cleaned regularly to prevent the accumulation of earwax and ensure the best possible user experience.

In this article, we explain how to properly clean and maintain your hearing aids to ensure the longest possible lifespan for your devices (and the best possible experience for you).

1. Turn off and charge your hearing aid every night

First and foremost, be sure to charge your hearing aid every day! At night, before going to bed, simply plug your hearing aids into the provided USB charging tips.

Remember to turn off your hearing aid before plugging it in. Turning the device off when not in use increases daily battery life and extends the overall lifespan of your device.

2. Regularly clean your hearing aid with the provided brush

We recommend cleaning your hearing aid and its tips as often as every day. Earwax accumulation is completely normal and expected, but it can cause major functional problems if not dealt with regularly.

To clean your hearing aids and tips, use the provided cleaning brush. Remove the tips from the device, then use the brush to remove any earwax, dust, or residue present on the tip as well as on the device itself.

The tips can be rinsed under lukewarm water, but make sure they are completely dry before putting them back on your device.

3. Order new accessories regularly

Very often, an excess of earwax, dust, or residue disrupts the functioning of a hearing aid. When these materials get stuck in the device, they can cause whistling, block sound, or lead to other issues. This is why we recommend buying replacement tips once a month.

You can clean your tips with a brush, but after about 2 to 4 weeks of use, it is better to simply get new ones: this often allows for a better seal and overall improved sound quality!

For the EV1, you just need to replace the tips. It does not have a built-in wax guard: therefore, you simply need to change the tips every month and remember to use the cleaning brush often. You can get an EV1 accessory kit here. Receive the kit every month for only $8/month and ensure your device is always well maintained. The kit contains a new cleaning brush, replacement tips, and an additional volume adjustment tool.

The EV3, on the other hand, has wax filters to replace in addition to the tips. We recommend changing the wax filters every week and the tips at least once a month. You can get the EV3 accessory kit here. Subscribe and save to get the kit for only $9/month. The kit contains a cleaning brush, tips, new wax filters, and a volume adjustment tool.

Overall, maintaining your hearing aids is not complicated. You just need to remember to turn them off and charge them at night, regularly clean the tips and devices, and order new tips a few times a year.

For the rest, just enjoy your restored hearing! It really is that simple.
